Begovic: ‘We Won’t See The True Chelsea Until The End Of The Transfer Window’ by ashawo(: 3:31 pm On Aug 08

The Blues have endured a frustrating summer following their Premier League title success.

The champions have seen a host of players leave Stamford Bridge during the off-season, including Nemanja Matic - who joined rivals Manchester United for £40m - John Terry, Nathan Ake, Nathaniel Chalobah and Dominic Solanke.

Meanwhile, manager Antonio Conte is said to be frustrated with club chiefs over the lack of summer signings, having landed only striker Alvaro Morata, defender Antonio Rudiger, midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and goalkeeper Willy Caballero.

The Italian was furthered angered by the club’s failure to beat Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium, and there are some who feel there is trouble brewing at the club ahead of the season campaign.

However, Begovic – who also left the Blues this summer to join Bournemouth in a £10m switch – insists there is still time in the transfer window for Chelsea to improve their squad.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s Ian Abrahams, the goalkeeper said: “Chelsea would have been disappointed to lose that game [against Arsenal]. As much as people don’t think the Community Shield is important, it’s an important game, it’s a trophy and not to win a trophy is always disappointing.

“He [Antonio Conte] would not have been happy, especially immediately after the game, he would have wanted to win that game and get the season off to a really positive note.

“From the outside looking in, obviously I don’t know, I haven’t been in the camp.

“Obviously they have let a lot of players go, a lot of players have left for many different reasons, but there’s still just under a month left of the transfer window. A lot of things can happen.

“I don’t think you’re going to see the true Chelsea until the end of August, but they can’t afford a slow start.

“I’m sure they’ll want to get off to a good start with the Champions League coming up and a Premier League title to defend too.

“They’ve got an important couple of weeks ahead.”
